Ptolenai was a philosopher, mathematician, and physicist who lived near the end of the Saecula Gentorum.
Works
Ptolenai wrote several treatises on various subjects that were circulated among the various philosophers living in the Dardanian Isles. He came after most of the great SG philosophers, but he made several important contributions in these works.
Syntaxis Geographia
In this work, Ptolenai constructed a map of the known regions of Evrosia. Though his information was not entirely correct, his maps were used for centuries after his death, especially by the Lavinian Empire.
Here he also calculated the size of the Orbis Terrarvm, based on the length of shadows cast at noon in Nemidia compared to those in Dardania. He found it to be seven and one third thousand leagues. This estimate was generally accepted as correct, though there was evidence to the contrary, until the disastrous expedition of king Aferon.
